Playing Grown-Ups

Yesterday, I had a tea party for a few friends at my house. Yes, I’m mathematically a grown woman and I still like tea parties. You get tea, and there’s a party…what’s not to like? Anyway, it was a lot of fun!

On the menu:

  • Vanilla Bean Scones, a la Pioneer Woman
  • Carmelized peach tarts
  • Salami, cheese, and crackers
  • Pasta salad

This was part of the preparation. I temporarily dubbed my kitchen Scone Central.

I may have gotten a bit carried away with the scones. But hey, they were delicious! Incidentally…note how the scones are triangular and baked, rather than roundish and fried? That’s because these are SCONES. For those of you who don’t live in Utah, people in this state refer to fried dough/elephant ears as “scones.” This was a tremendous disappointment to me when I first arrived in the state, was invited to a bonfire, and was offered a scone. Fried dough is all well and good, but let’s call a spade a spade.

Or a scone a scone.

Anyway. Here is a (blurry) pic of the tea party in progress. Thanks, Allison, Alisa, Sherry, Emily, and Char for coming over! And Mom, who arrived in typical badass biker style 40 minutes after the photo was taken.

Allison is making a funny face.

“Why are you taking pictures instead of letting us eat all this food?”

Because I’m a meanie, that’s why.

Anyway…tea parties are great, and we all got to play dress-up and act like refined adults *snort* for an afternoon. Thanks for coming over, guys!

That scone is AMAZING, isn’t it? I ate about half the batch I made back around Christmas…and I had screwed them up and left out the sugar!
